Dear Higher Education Student:
The Nation suspended financial assistance under the Higher Education Program due to the devastating loss of revenues the Nation experienced as a result of the COVlD-19 public health emergency. The Tribal Council recognizes the Nation’s higher education students have also been negatively impacted by the COVlD-19 public health emergency and have a need for financial assistance in meeting their educational expenses. Although the Nation is not in a financial position to resume full financial assistance under the Higher Education Program, the Tribal Council voted on December 10, 2020, to provide a one-time financial assistance payment of$2,000.00 to the Nation’s higher education students enrolled for the Spring 2021 Academic Term.
In order to receive the financial assistance payment, a higher education student must submit the attached application indicating you are enrolled in an accredited educational institution for the Spring 2021 Academic Term either parttime or full-time, and either on-line or in person. The application must include a class schedule for the Spring 2021 Academic Term.
Applications must be submitted to the Nation’s Higher Education Manager, Lisa Sandoval, by February I, 2021. Following receipt of the completed application and class schedule, the Nation will mail a check directly to you in your name. You may only use the financial assistance payment to cover educational expenses, such as tuition and fees, textbooks and supplies, or living expenses.
Finally, the Tribal Council will review the Nation’s financial situation later in 2021 to determine whether additional financial assistance to the Nation’s higher education students is feasible for subsequent academic terms.
