Native American Designation Now Available on Arizona IDs
The Yavapai-Apache Nation is sharing this information to help community members stay informed about a new identification option now available in Arizona.
Enrolled members of federally recognized Tribal Nations in Arizona may now choose to have “Native American” printed on their Arizona driver’s license, instruction permit, or state ID card.
This option is available through the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) and is effective as of January 1, 2026.

The designation appears directly on the Arizona-issued ID

Requests must be made in person at an MVD office

A new photo and application are required

Proof of tribal enrollment is required (e.g., Tribal ID or Certificate of Indian Blood)
This designation is optional and does not replace existing tribal identification.
